The Art of Planting
Planting a tree might seem like a simple task – dig a hole, put the tree in, cover it up. Done, right? Not quite. If only trees came with a manual like IKEA furniture. But don’t worry, that’s where we come in!
Our tree experts ensure the tree is planted at the correct depth – not too deep, not too shallow, but just right. Like Goldilocks, but with less porridge and more soil1. We handle the rootball with care, ensuring it stays intact as much as possible and the tree trunk flare is 1-2 inches above the existing grade. We don’t cut corners, but we do cut away ropes, twine, burlap, and any plastic or synthetic materials that might impede root development1.
Backfilling is done with great care, making sure not to overpack the soil. We water the soil halfway through the backfill process, allow it to drain, then resume backfilling and water again thoroughly. This keeps the soil well-aerated, because just like us, tree roots need to breathe too! Once we’re done, we ensure that the trunk flare is completely exposed and the structural roots are within the top 3 inches of soil.
Selecting the Right Tree for the Right Location
We consider the site’s slope, soil type, exposure, drainage, and more to ensure that the tree you’re planting will thrive. It’s like matchmaking, but with trees and soil1. And don’t worry, we don’t play favorites with native or non-native plants. Our aim is to select plants that are non-invasive, pest-resistant, and will thrive in the selected site. We’re all about inclusivity here!
Moving Trees
Sometimes, a tree has simply outgrown its location or needs a change of scenery. No problem, we’re experts at the delicate art of tree moving. While we can’t promise that the tree won’t get a little homesick, we can ensure that it’ll have the best possible chance of thriving in its new location. We’re basically the real estate agents of the tree world!
Tree Replanting
If a tree has been removed and needs to be replanted, we’re here to help. With careful attention to depth, proper handling of the rootball, and meticulous backfilling, we’ll give your tree a second chance at life. Plus, we’ll do it with a smile on our faces, because there’s nothing we love more than helping trees reach their full potential!
